      True in some cases but not all: From www.botswana.co.za/Botswana_Regional_Info-travel/botswana-fast-facts.html “There are many very straight roads in the southern parts of Botswana and from the air a number of straight lines can be seen on the ground, some cleared and some seemingly overgrown. These are from the diamond prospecting days when graders were used to clear straight grid lines on the ground for the prospecting. The diamond corporation De Beers needed a checkered grid to assist in the prospecting and today many of these clearings have been incorporated into the road network, whilst other have been left to grow over.” Thank you for watching and commenting

    Been overlanding since the early 1960's, from Hluhluwe to Nigramoep, from Alldays to Agulhas. Never owned a bakkie, let alone a 4x4. We used Opel, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, 2WD Toyota, Peugeot 404, and enjoyed every minute of overlanding. Even did it in a 1973 Audi 100S. Boy, do I frown when I see the macho "builds" from Down Under 😂😂. No, buy something that can drive from the showroom to Daberas. 😊🎉. Oh, the only kit we ever needed was a cake tin with padkos and a thermos flask of coffee, and a tough plastic 2l bottle of water.

    Dear Mr. Bruce, I've been watching your RUclips videos on a daily basis, and I thoroughly enjoy the way you present them. There are two episodes that I particularly enjoy watching: the first is when you visited the triple point of Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Zambia in Kanyemba, and the 'Chasing Smiles' episode 3, where you went to the triple point of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. What I'd like to find out from you, sir, is whether you have plans to make a video about the triple point of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana, located along the Shashe River and Limpopo River on either side? Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response."

    Following our conversation about Chitake, I have concerning and disconcerning news about chitake. I was in Chitake2- campsite and at 6pm I had the fire going and as you adviced had a few lights on, sitting in my chair, next to the car. Then I heard a Lion contact calling, difficult to tell how far, but the fourth time it became clear that it was not too far, 100m or less? Straight ahead. So to deter I shone my spotlight, but a few bushes were in the way, so I couldn't see. The next call was suddenly and unexpectedly to my right, and when I directed the spotlight that way , less then 15 meters away a Lioness casually walked by. As if I was not there, nor the lights nor the fire. Later she came back and roared the most of the night, 20 meters away , just behind the bushes of the campsite and later another one 60m away (saw the marks where they laid down the next day). Each night the lions were roaring like crazy coming from all directions, but not far away. Concerning that the Lion was not deterred at all, disconcerning because clearly I as a human was not on the menu... ..this time.

    • @OverlandingwithBruce
      @OverlandingwithBruce Месяц назад

      Amazing. this is what I tell people all the time. Lions will not be deterred by humans....they take down buffalo so a human is pretty insignificant to them. That is why I always tell people to have an escape plan and make sure that escape plan is able to keep you safe for an extended period of time. I believe people were doing yoga in the river bed recently. They have no idea how terrible that is for the neighbours but also how dangerous that is for them to do that. They wouldnt even see the lions coming before it was too late. You are so lucky to experience that. A once in the life time experience. Well done and thank you for letting me know.

    Hey Bruce. You probably don’t remember me (also a Turner) but when you trek through Malawi again get in touch. Better yet, bring your dad up here. Our dads were friends many moons ago. Have a spot on the lake and camp regularly in the AP parks. Great show btw, congrats.

      Hi Brad. Was your dad’s name Lionel by any chance. I think I remember a Lionel Turner. Now that sounds like a great plan. Please email me your contact details to bruce@owb.co.za and let me know your dad’s name so I can tell my old man too. Thank you and thank you for watching
